Jason Fisher wins hammer and shot put at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio -The Bluffton University track and field teams competed at the Wilmington College Invitational hosted by Wilmington College on Saturday. The men placed sixth out of nine teams and the women came in seventh out of nine teams. Host Wilmington College won on both the men's and women's side.

Leading on the men's side was senior JASON FISHER (Rockford/Parkway). Fisher won the hammer throw (169-04) and the shot put (53-00.75), which is a new school record and a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Fisher also placed second in the discus (144-08) and third in the javelin (160-00).

Also scoring for the Beavers was freshman JOSH FISHER (Rockford/Parkway), who placed fourth in long jump (20-05.25) and eighth in the 200 (23.96), sophomore KEVIN HICKMAN (Centerburg), who placed seventh in the 400 (54.03) and sophomore BRIAN HECKATHORN(Hartville/Lake), who took eighth in he shot (41-03.75). The 4x4 relay team of FISHER, HICKMAN,  junior MICHAEL TIMPE (Swanton), and freshman JEREMY KIDDER (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) came in seventh with a time of 3:40.61.

Leading the women was sophomore MEGAN NEAL (Arlington) who placed first in the hammer throw (139-11).  

Also scoring for the women was senior DONELLE PARKER (Painsville/Thomas W. Harvey), who placed second in the high jump (4-08.25); sophomore HEATHER SMITH (Elkhart, Ind./Concord), who took second in the steeplechase (13:06.24); freshmen ALISON JANZEN(Whitewater, Kansas/Remington), who placed fifth in the 5,000 (21:05.69) and freshman KATY HEFFNER (Troy), who placed seventh in the 5,000 (22:53.63). Sophomore ALLISON TRENT(Orrville/Smithville) placed third in the hammer (123-02), freshman DELYLAH KUBITZ(Ashtabula/Edgewood) came in sixth in the hammer (111-08) and seventh in the discus (106-05) and the 4x4 relay team of PARKER, SMITH,  freshman ELIZABETH BROWN (Edon), and senior SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) placed sixth with a time of 4:48.68.

The Beavers will return to action on Friday, April 30, for the start of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference meet which will be hosted Mount St. Joseph.
