Bluffton takes 4th in season opener at Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field teams opened their indoor season at the Purple and White Invitational, hosted by Capital University on Saturday, December 11. Both the men and women placed fourth overall, while host Capital took first on the men's side and Wright State placed first for the women.

Leading on the men's side were senior Michael Timpe (Swanton) and freshman James Whitt (Lancaster/Berne Union). Timpe claimed first in the 800m with a time of 2:10.11 and 8th in the triple jump with a leap of 10.18 meters, while Whitt placed first in the 1,600m with a time of 5:13.03.
 
Also scoring for the men was junior Seth Hertenstien (St. Marys/Memorial), who placed 2nd in the 3000m with a time of 10:38.58; sophomore Chris Arnold (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury), who took 4th in the 800m with a time of 2:29.57; sophomore Jeremy Kidder (New Carlisle/Tecumseh), who placed 5th in the 800m with a time of 2:33.61; freshman John Harbeck (Mansfield/Mansfield Christian), who finished 5th in the 3000m with a time of 11:13.95.
 
Pacing the women was freshman Brandi Dominique (Wauseon), who placed first in the 800m with a time of 2:42.08 and 8th in the 1,600m with a time of 6:16.30. Also highlighting for the women was junior Megan Neal (Arlington), who placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.48 meters, setting a new school record.
 
Rounding out the point-getters for the Bluffton women was freshman Kayla Mullenhour (Delphos/Jefferson), who placed 4th in the high jump with a leap of 1.37 meters and 5th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.95, and junior Allison Trent (Orrville/Smithville), who placed 6th in the weight throw with a toss of 12.63 meters.

The Beavers remain idle until their next meet on January 21, 2011, at the University of Findlay.
