Bluffton women place third at Dick Small

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field teams competed in the Dick Small Invitational at Defiance College on Saturday, March 19, 2011. The women placed third overall while the men took sixth. Host Defiance College placed first on both the women's and men's side.

Leading the Bluffton women was freshman KAYLA MULLENHOUR (Delphos/Jefferson). Mullenhour took second in the 100m hurdles (17.56) and the 400m (1:14.65), and third in the high jump (4-04). Junior MEGAN NEAL (Arlington) also had a pair of second place finishes in the shot put (32-07.50) and the hammer throw (133-02).

Rounding out the scoring for the Bluffton women was junior ALLISON TRENT(Orrville/Smithville), who placed second in the discus (98-04), fifth in the hammer throw (115-03), and seventh in the shot put (29-02.75. Freshman JULIE COURT (Galion) took third in the discus (97-10), freshman BRANDI DOMINIQUE (Wauseon) placed third in the 800 (2:41.38) and fifth in the 1500m (5:42.04), sophomore ALISON JANZEN (Whitewater, Kansas/Remington) came in third in the 5,000m (22:35.15). Freshman LYNDSEY DARROW(Pioneer/North Central) placed fourth in the 800m (2:47.02) and sophomore KATY HEFFNER(Troy) claimed fourth in the 5,000m (23:05.48).

Pacing the Bluffton men was freshman AUSTIN CARTER (Columbus/Beechcroft). Carter placed second in the 200m with a time of 23.24 and fourth in the 100m with a time of 11.45.

Rounding out the Bluffton men was junior BRIAN HECKATHORN (Hartville/Lake), who placed fourth in the shot put (41-01) and eighth in the hammer throw (96-00), MICHAEL TIMPE(Swanton), who took second in the triple jump (35-08.50) and seventh in the 800m (2:10.02), freshman RONNELL ARMSTRONG (Bexley), who placed sixth in the 100m (11.76), junior ANDREW CHAFFEE (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), who crossed the line sixth in the 5,000m (18:20), and sophomore JOSH FISHER (Rockford/Parkway), who placed seventh in the 200m (24.29).  

The Beavers are back in action on March 26 when they compete at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Cedarville University.
