Three from volleyball named to Dean's List for 2006 Fall Semester

January 25, 2007

The Bluffton University Volleyball team placed three members on the Dean's List for the 2006 fall semester. Five other Beavers finished with a 3.0 or higher. Senior KATIE MOORE(Bucyrus/Wynford) was joined on the Dean's List by freshmen BRITTANY ROTH(Findlay/Findlay) and JORDAN SCIFRES (Greenwood, Ind./Lutheran).

Leading the Beavers from the back row was defensive specialist Katie Moore. She provided the freshmen-laden team with an excellent example of what a student-athlete is. On the court, Moore kept the Beavers in matches by making plays that seemed unlikely. In the classroom, Katie once again worked her way onto the Dean's List, proving that individuals can excel both as students and as athletes.
Freshman Jordan Scifres contributed to Bluffton's success in a multitude of ways. Not only was she a stellar outside hitter, but Scifres also showed that she was adept defensively. For the season, Jordan hammered home 248 kills while collecting 274 digs. She consistently improved throughout the season and will be counted on to be part of the foundation that Coach Yarnell is building. Scifres worked hard off the court as well, being named to the Dean's List following her first semester at Bluffton.
Another freshman standout for the Beavers, Brittany Roth, was named to the Dean's List for the 2006 fall semester. Roth, who was a fixture for Bluffton as the starting libero, made her mark early in the season when she was named to the All-Tournament team at the Ohio Wesleyan Bishop Invitational. She ended her freshman campaign with a team-high 552 digs (5.02 digs per game).

Finishing the fall semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher were senior BRITTANY SHULTZ (Hudson, Ind./Prairie Heights), junior RACHEL ALVAREZ (Convoy/Crestview), sophomores KATE BARNETT (North Bloomfield/Lakeview) and CHELSEA WYSE (Archbold/Archbold), and freshman TORY HENKLE (Rockford/Parkway).

The end of the year banquet celebrated the year's accomplishments by the 2006 Beaver volleyball team. Senior Katie Moore was selected as the award winner of the "Bucky Beaver Award." The Bucky Beaver Award is awarded to the athlete that displays the qualities of a Beaver, intelligent, hard-working and a determination to get the job done. Freshman Jordan Scifres was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player for the 2006 season.
