BLUFFTON, Ohio - Not only did the Beavers have an impressive 2014 season on the court, but they got it done in the classroom as well. Results from the fall 2014 semester revealed that 13 of the 14 players achieved above a 3.0 for the semester, which earned a team GPA of 3.38. Seven players achieved above a 3.5 with four of those seven being named on the Dean's list (GPA above a 3.6).

Academic All-HCAC honors went to three players. Junior Jenny Brown, a graphic design major, received the award for the 2nd consecutive year. Sophomores MacKenzie McFarlin (nutrition/dietetics major) and Lauren Weisgarber (pre-med major) also received this award. In order to be placed on the All-Academic team, an athlete must have completed a full year at Bluffton while carrying a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and being a varsity athlete.

At the end of the semester, the Beavers held their annual awards banquet to recap the season and celebrate the team's accomplishments. There were four player-voted awards. In addition to the MVP and Most Improved Player, Bluffton gives out the Unsung Hero award to the athlete that makes a big impact on the team but rarely goes recognized. The J. Denny Award is the final award that is for the student athlete that is intelligent, hard-working and has a determination to get the job done in the classroom and on the court. To qualify for the J. Denny award the winner must be of sophomore, junior, or senior status and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. The following players received each award:

Most Valuable Player – sophomore MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland)
Most Improved Player – freshman Erin Helms (Arlington)
Unsung Hero – freshman Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic)
 J. Denny – sophomore Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley)

We are extremely proud of our athletes and are looking forward to seeing what the girls will accomplish over the rest of the year.
