Jackets rally for five-set win at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team welcomed HCAC-rival Defiance College to Copeland Court on Wednesday, Oct. 30, for the last home game of the 2019 season. The Beavers dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision (21-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13) to the Yellow Jackets. Bluffton falls to 7-22 (3-5 HCAC) following the loss while Defiance moved to 16-11 (4-4 HCAC).

Junior Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) powered the Beaver offense with 24 kills which equaled her career best. Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) and Carley Lester (Chesapeake) hammered home 16 and nine winners, respectively. Sophomore Maddie White (Ashland) dished out 51 helpers and was also in on four blocks.

Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) led the defense with a career-high 39 digs. Chelsey Taylor (Hicksville) and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) pitched in 15 and 13 pickups, respectively. Weekley also fired two aces. Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) was a threat at the net as she knocked down a career-best seven blocks and tacked on five kills for the home team.

The volleyballers are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they head to Rose-Hulman for the final match of the regular season. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. Bluffton is still in the mix for an HCAC tournament berth pending Saturday's Franklin and MSJ results. Go Beavers!
