Beavers compete against best in state at All-Ohio Championships

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Bluffton University cross country team competed against the best collegiate runners in the state when the Beavers ran at the All-Ohio Championships on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008.

The top performance on the men's side was turned in by freshman ANDREW CHAFFEE(Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) who placed 113th with a time of 31:12.6. Just over a minute later, senior JUSTIN DERRINGER (Brookville) took 119th in 32:16.6. Right on Derringer's heels was sophomore BRIAN TIMPE (Wauseon/Pike-Delta-York) who placed 120th (32:19.1). Juniors BEN SIEBERT (Celina/Celina) and COLLIN WAGNER (Pettisville) rounded out the placers for Bluffton with times of 32:53.3 and 33:55.9, respectively.

Freshman HEATHER SMITH (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) was the first Bluffton runner to cross the finish on the women's side. She placed 102nd with a time of 23:06.7 for her best race of the year. SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) was just 40 seconds behind Smith, finishing in 23:46.6. Senior DEB DAVIS (Seneca, Penn./Christian Life Academy) placed 126th with a time of 26:59.8.

The Beavers return to action on Friday, Oct. 17, when Bluffton travels to the Wilmington Classic. The women's meet is slated to start at 4:30 p.m. with the men scheduled for 5 p.m.
