Beavers place second in Bluffton Invitational

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University cross country teams hosted Owens Community College and Defiance in the Bluffton Invitational on Friday, September 25, 2009. The Bluffton men outdistanced Owens to place second while the women just missed out on first place as they came in just three points behind Defiance.

HEATHER SMITH (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) led the women's squad in the 3k run with a time of 12:44 which landed her 2nd place. ALISON JANZEN (Whitewater, KS/Remington) finished in 4th place with a time of 13:13. Rounding out the Bluffton squad was SARAH BINKLEY(Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) with a time of 13:18, KATY HEFFNER (Troy) with a time of 13:23, and KAITLYN KELLY (Middlefield/Cardinal) with a time of 13:24.
 
On the men's side, ANDY CHAFFEE (Clarkston, Mich.) put together Bluffton's top performance in the 5k run, finishing in 3rd place. Second for Bluffton was BEN SIEBERT (Celina) who crossed the line in 10th place. Three other Bluffton men participated, including JEREMY KIDDER (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) who finished in 14th place, KEVIN HICKMAN (Centerburg) crossing the line in 16th place and ROBERT HOOLEY (Bluffton) whorounded out the Bluffton men's team in 18th place.

Bluffton's next run will be at the All-Ohio Championships on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University next Friday, October 2, 2009.
