The Bluffton College baseball team finally got a chance to play on its home field last weekend and took one of three games from a scrappy Transylvania University squad in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference three-game series at Sears Field.

Overall, the Beavers posted a 1-3 record last week, but in two of those losses Bluffton had the game-winning run on base in its last or next-to-last at bat but was unable produce the go-ahead RBI. BC is now 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the HCAC.

Bluffton is scheduled to host Urbana on April 2 before taking on HCAC foe Defiance this weekend. Friday's nine-inning game will take place at Defiance, while the double-header Saturday will begin at 1 p.m. at Sears Field.

Junior Kyle Alberson hit his team-leading ninth homerun Thursday in Bluffton's 6-5 loss at Wilmington, as he continues to move closer to the single-season homer record of 10. He leads the squad in batting average (.520), runs (14), hits (26), RBI (25), slugging percentage (1.140), walks (10) and on base percentage (.613). Other offensive leaders include junior Bob Heitkamp (.471, 5 2b), sophomore Brad Moore (.412), sophomore Jason Moore (.389) and junior Jim Dwenger (.370, 5 2b). In BC's four games last week, Jason Moore led the squad at the plate, batting .438 (7-for-16).

Senior Wes Hall picked up Bluffton's lone win last week and leads the pitching staff with a 2-2 record. ERA leaders include freshmen Steve Hastings (3.52), Randy Miller (4.05) and Casey Ray (4.50).
