Bluffton splits with Muskingum

The Bluffton College baseball team (4-9) split their lone doubleheader of the week with Muskingum College on Saturday. The Beavers won the first game 1-0 and dropped the night cap 9-2. In the victory, senior pitcher Josh Underwood (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) improved his record to 3-0 for the season by pitching a 1-hitter game for the shutout victory. The Beavers recorded no extra-base hits for the first game. Sophomore Riordan McClain (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) hit a double in game two with junior Ryan Fiely (Greensville/Greenville Sr.) belting a home run in the 9-2 loss.

Underwood currently posts a 2.70 ERA for the season with 19 strikeouts and 11 runs scored. He has faced 100 batters in 26.2 innings pitched, allowing only 22 hits for the year. For the season, Fiely leads the team in hitting with a .378 batting average. He leads the Beavers with 17 hits, five home runs, 11 RBI's and a slugging percentage of .756 for the season. Senior Scott Van Eman (Elida/Elida) posts a .333 average with 14 hits to round off the batting leaders.

As a squad the Beavers show a .246 batting average (.393 slugging percentage). For the season Bluffton posts 24 errors for a .938 fielding percentage. The pitching staff combines for a 6.28 ERA from the mound with 62 strikeouts for the season for a .298 opponent batting average.
