Beavers place four on All-HCAC Baseball squad

Senior pitcher JOSH UNDERWOOD (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) has been named first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for 2004. Seniors LUKE CLOUSE(Rockford/Parkway), KYLE ALBERSON ( Berne , Ind. /South Adams ) and BOB HEITKAMP(Ft. Recovery/Ft. Recovery) were named second team All-HCAC for their efforts respectively. 

"These four seniors are very deserving of their all conference status," head coach James Grandey said. "They had a great senior year and were leaders on and off the field."

Underwood had an outstanding year in his final season on the mound as he was named the Most Valuable Player and Most Outstanding Pitcher for the Beavers. The starting pitcher finished 2004 with a 6-4 overall record and 3.18 ERA. He pitched 10 complete games and one shutout as he made eleven appearances for the season. Underwood threw 46 strikeouts in 73.2 innings as he faced 289 total batters. He now owns the single season (10) and career (17) complete game record and the innings pitched in a season record (73.2).

Clouse was selected to the second team as he posted a team high .340 batting average in 2004. The catcher recorded 124 putouts for a .957 fielding average behind the plate for the season. Luke recorded 35 hits, seven doubles, one home run and 19 RBI's for Bluffton.

Alberson was selected All-HCAC for the third straight year. He made first team all conference in 2002 and 2003. The first baseman recorded the third highest batting average on the team at .309 and led the Beavers in runs (26), hits (38), doubles (12), total bases (74) and home runs (8). Kyle owns the single season home run record as he posted 10 in 2003. He owns career records in home runs (32), RBI's (113) and total bases (274).

Heitkamp was selected second team All-HCAC for the second consecutive season.  The third baseman batted .310 (second on team) in 2004 as he led the Beavers in RBI's (31) and slugging percentage (.606). The senior overcame a pre-season injury as he played in only 22 games to finish out the year.
