Bluffton splits double-header with Muskingum in lone outing on week

The Bluffton University baseball team (3-8) picked up a lone win against Muskingum last week with a 5-4 victory in last Saturday's doubleheader.  The Beavers dropped the first game of the twinbill to the Muskies 2-1 in eight innings.  Bluffton will play in their home opener on Tuesday, March 22, against Tiffin University (3 p.m. start time). The Beavers will then travel to Mount St. Joseph for their 2005 Heartland Conference series opener on Thursday and Friday, March 24-25. Thursday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the Friday doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.

At Muskingum on March 19, the Muskies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first game before the Beavers tied the game at one all in the top of the sixth inning. Junior LOWELL WYSE(Camden, Mich/Heston) scored the tying run off a JASON MOORE (Elida/Elida) single to centerfield.  Bluffton could not hold the tie as Muskingum scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the contest 2-1. 

The Muskies jumped out to another quick lead, 4-0, in the second game before Bluffton scored five runs over the fifth and sixth innings to win the second contest 5-4. 

Leading the Beavers on the week was Wyse with four hits, including one double and four RBI's.  Moore posted three hits and one RBI in action against Muskingum. Senior RYAN FIELY(Greenville/Greenville) posted a double, two hits and one RBI. Freshman TIM KAY (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity ) picked up his first collegiate win on the mound on March 19 as he struck out three batters and walked two.

Leading Bluffton offensively on the season is Jason Moore with a .556 batting average, 15 hits, six RBI's and a .613 on base percentage.  TONY GERIG (West Unity/Hilltop) posts a .378 batting average in 37 at bats to rank second on the squad.
