Bluffton picks up one win at MSJ

The Bluffton University baseball team (4-11, 1-2 HCAC) picked up one win last week in their Heartland Conference series at Mount St. Joseph. The Beavers beat the Lions 6-0 and dropped the two other games 4-3 and 3-1. Earlier in the week Bluffton lost to Tiffin University 15-4 at Sears Field.

The Beavers will be back in action as they host Cedarville University on March 29 at 3 p.m. The team will travel to Anderson University on April 1 for a single game and come back to Sears Field the next day (April 2) for the conclusion of the HCAC series. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Senior JASON MOORE (Elida/Elida) continues to guide the Beavers with a .462 batting average. Moore leads the squad with 18 hits and a .487 slugging percentage. Freshman KYLE WHITE (Berne, Ind./South Adams) is second on the team with a .340 batting average. White posts 16 hits, 12 RBI's (runs batted in), three doubles and a .404 slugging percentage. Junior LOWELL WYSE (Camden, Mich./Heston) ranks third on the squad in hitting with a .333 batting average. Wyse leads the team with 21 total bases and has knocked out 16 hits on the year.

Jason Moore leads the pitching corps as he picked up his first shutout win of the season last week at Mount St. Joseph. Moore posts a 3.29 ERA (earned run average) in 27.1 innings pitched. He has faced 105 batters, given up 14 runs and struck out eight at the plate. Freshman GORDON HAGEN (Toledo/Libbey) follows closely behind with a 3.86 ERA. Junior RANDY MILLER (Willard/Willard) and freshman TIM KAY (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) lead the team with 10 strikeouts each.
