The Bluffton University baseball team (5-16, 2-7 HCAC) posted one win and three losses in action last week. The Beavers lost to non-conference foe Wilmington College 21-7. The team then won one game (9-8) and lost two (8-3, 2-0) to Heartland Conference opponent Franklin College.
Bluffton will be back in action on April 12 as they host Earlham College. The nine inning game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. The Beavers will then travel to Defiance on April 15 for the first of the three game HCAC series. The single nine inning game will start at 4 p.m. Bluffton will then host the doubleheader versus the Yellow Jackets starting at 12 noon on April 16.
Leading the Beavers offensively is senior JASON MOORE (Elida/Elida) with a .350 batting average with 13 runs on 21 hits. Junior TONY GERIG (West Unity/Hilltop) ranks second on the team in hitting with a .338 average and leads the team in runs (18), hits (24). Freshman KYLE WHITE (Berne, Ind./South Adams) ranks third on the team with a .329 batting average and leads the team in RBI's (runs batted in) with 17.
Freshman TIM KAY (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) leads the pitching staff with a 3.54 ERA. Kay records a 1-2 record on the mound in 28 innings pitched and 21 strikeouts. Jason Moore ranks second on the team with a 3.66 ERA in 32 innings pitched and 15 strikeouts.
