Bluffton wins first HCAC series of the year at Hanover

The Bluffton University baseball team (7-24, 4-11 HCAC) won two and lost two games in action last week.  The Beavers dropped a single game to Ohio Northern University 8-6 in early week play.  Bluffton then traveled to Hanover College for their Heartland Conference series.  The Beavers were able to win two games 7-4, 11-4 with the Panthers taking the first game of the series 6-5. Senior RYAN FIELY (Greenville/Greenville) was chosen as HCAC baseball hitter-of-the-week for his efforts against ONU and Hanover.

Bluffton will be back in action on April 27 as they host Capital University. The nine inning contest is slated to start at 4 p.m.  The Beavers will then host Transylvania University for their 2005 HCAC series.  Bluffton will entertain the Pioneers for all three games the first on April 29 (start time 4 p.m.), as well as the doubleheader on April 30 (12 noon start).

Senior JASON MOORE (Elida/Elida) posts a .344 batting average to lead the squad. Moore has 17 runs, 31 hits, 13 RBI's and 33 total bases on the 2005 campaign. Freshman TONY MOORE(Elida/Elida) follows his brother closely as he posts a .321 batting average. Ryan Fiely leads the squad in hits (34), doubles (8), RBI's (23) and total bases (51).

Freshman TIM KAY (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) leads the pitching staff with a 4.12 ERA in 39.1 innings pitched. Kay owns a 2-3 record for the year as has given up 43 hits and struck out 25 batters. Jason Moore follows with a 4.44 ERA in 50.2 innings pitched. Moore posts a 3-4 record as a pitcher with 63 hits and 25 strikeouts.
