The Bluffton University baseball team (8-26, 5-13 HCAC) posted one win against conference opponent Transylvania on the week. Bluffton hosted all three games against the Pioneers for their 2005 Heartland Conference series. The Beavers lost the first game 5-3 in 10 innings. Bluffton then held off the Pioneers in game two for the
3-1 victory. In the series finale, the Beavers lost to Transylvania 2-1.
Bluffton will be back in action on May 6, as they host Manchester College for their last HCAC series of 2005. The nine inning contest is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. The Beavers will then travel to Manchester for a doubleheader on May 7 (start time 1 p.m.), to finish out the series.
JASON MOORE (Elida/Elida) posts a .343 batting average to lead the squad. Moore has 18 runs, 34 hits, 13 RBI's and 36 total bases on the 2005 campaign. Junior LOWELL WYSE(Camden, Mich./Hesston College) posts a .306 batting average for the Beavers along with 18 runs, 30 hits and 12 RBI's. Senior RYAN FIELY (Greenville/Greenville) leads the squad in hits (37), doubles (8), RBI's (25) and total bases (54).
Freshman TIM KAY (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) leads the pitching staff with a 3.69 ERA in 46.1 innings pitched. Kay owns a 2-4 record for the year as has given up 49 hits and struck out 27 batters. Jason Moore follows with a 4.06 ERA in 57.2 innings pitched. Moore posts a 4-4 record as a pitcher with 69 hits and leads the team with 29 strikeouts.
