Beavers struggle at the plate in 7-5 loss to Otterbein

April 14, 2008

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team's bats went silent after scoring 32 runs on Saturday as Otterbein held the Beavers to just four hits in the Cardinals' 7-5 victory on Monday, April 14, 2008. Bluffton fell to 11-15 while Otterbein upped its record to 13-9.

A.J. RAMTHUN (Springfield/Southeastern) ripped a one-out double down the right field line in the first inning. He came around to score following a walk to CHRIS BAUMAN(Milford/Milford) and two wild pitches.

The Beavers posted three more score in the bottom of the second despite getting only one hit. Walks to BRENNAN BAUMAN (Milford/Milford) and TONY MOORE (Elida/Elida) sandwiched around a DAVID RIDDLE (Milford/Milford) single loaded the bases with one out. A.J. Ramthun lifted a sacrifice fly to right field before a pair of wild pitches allowed Riddle and Moore to make the score 4-0 after two innings.

Otterbein rallied with four runs on four hits and two Bluffton errors to knot the score at four in the fifth inning. Following a TITUS leadoff double, back-to-back Bluffton miscues allowed the Cardinals to plate a run. KOVANDA picked up RODENBERGER and CAHILL with his RBI single that hit the second base bag before MAUCK drove home EDWARDS for the fourth run of the inning.

Another Bluffton error, one of five the Beavers made in the game, led to an Otterbein run in the seventh inning.

Chris Bauman's RBI double to the gap in left canter plated A.J. Ramthun and tied the game at five in the home half of the inning.

The visitors used three hits and a Bluffton balk to put the game away with two runs in the top of the eighth for a 7-5 victory over the Beavers.

A.J. Ramthun scored two runs for Bluffton. Junior JAMES HAUSMAN (Milford/Milford) fell to 2-2 after giving up three runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of relief. Sophomore CODY MCPHERSON (Millbury/Lake) went five innings and limited Otterbein to four fifth-inning runs, two earned, on seven hits.

Bluffton returns to action on Wednesday, April 16, when it travels to Heidelberg College to take on another OAC squad. The contest is slated to start at 4 p.m.
