PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida - The Bluffton University baseball team fell to John Carroll 8-4 on Tuesday, March 6. The Beavers slipped to 2-4 overall and 2-2 at the Snowbird Classic.

Sophomore Ben Roeschley  (Graymont, Ill./Flanagan) dipped to 0-2 on the season after allowing six runs, just two earned, on five hits in 6.1 innings of work. Roeschley fanned four batters and walked just one. Halen Core (Reynoldsburg) came in for the seventh and eighth innings, allowing two runs while striking out a batter. Kyle Stover (Tipp City) came on to toss a scoreless ninth inning.

Miles Richardson (Granville/Newark Catholic) opened the scoring for the Beavers in the sixth inning. He singled, advanced to second when Nick Broyles (Toledo/Whitmer) was hit by a pitch and crossed the plate on an Airic Steagall (Hillsboro) double. Broyles also crossed the plate on Steagall's two-bagger. Steagall pulled Bluffton within a run (4-3) thanks to a John Carroll error.

Following a pair of two-run innings by JCU, the Beavers tried to rally in the ninth. Mike Castro (Reynoldsburg) walked, moved to second on an Anthony Cianci (Ravenna/Southeast) groundout and crossed the plate on a Kyle Niermann (Napoleon) single.

Kyle Niermann led the Beavers with three hits while Airic Steagall went 1-of-4 with two RBI's. Richardson added a pair of safeties.

Bluffton returns to action on Wednesday, March 7, when the Beavers meet #12 Heidelberg University at 10 a.m.
