Augustana takes 4-2 decision over Bluffton

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bluffton University baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Augustana on a hot, Thursday, March 5, 2020. Augustana improved to 2-2 on the season, while Bluffton dipped to 2-5. 

With Bluffton trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Adam Duncan (Northwood/Lake) singled home Garrett O'Reilly (Galena/Orange) to cut the deficit in half. Senior Parker Reynolds (Avon) evened the game at 2-2 an inning later when his base knock picked up Jeff Strayer (Columbus/Thomas Worthington) from third.

Unearned runs in the seventh and eighth were the difference as Augustana posted a 4-2 victory on Thursday afternoon.

Spencer Garrison (West Salem/Northwestern) turned in a superb six innings for the Beavers in a losing effort. He allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts and just one walk. Josh Slade (Cincinnati/Madeira) and Sam Krizek (Columbia Station/Columbia Station) limited Augustana to just one unearned run over the final three innings, giving up just one hit.

O'Reilly rapped two hits for the Beavers who managed just six safeties against the Vikings.

Bluffton will be back at work on Friday, March 6, when the Beavers battle Thiel at noon and Baruch at 6 p.m.
