BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Bluffton University sports information office will be talking to many of our spring athletes who are seniors during the month of April. They give us a glimpse back to their time at Bluffton along with what the future holds for them and their teammates.

Adam Duncan is a senior baseball and football student-athlete at Bluffton University. Graduating from Lake High School in Millbury, Ohio, Adam is a double major in Business Administration and Business Marketing. I was able to talk with Adam about his time at Bluffton, what made him decide to come to Bluffton and what he learned.

"Two things made me come to Bluffton," Adam said. "I was recruited by two schools, Baldwin Wallace and Bluffton. My sister and my now brother-in-law graduated from Bluffton, so I knew the campus. What made me come here was the opportunity to play both football and baseball."

Like many students, Adam also faced challenges as a student-athlete. "My biggest challenge would be staying on top of every assignment," he said. "I'm pretty organized and write everything down, but some days I forget things. I set a schedule each day of what I had to do. For baseball, there is no set schedule for getting back from games and tarp duty so you have to learn to be flexible."

Going into business administration and business marketing, Adam is able to take skills he learned from athletics into his field. "Being an athlete is extremely valuable (hard work and motivation). It's hard to be an athlete for four years in two sports. It has helped me handle losing and learning to push past those things. Being in business, dealing with people from different backgrounds and learning to get along with everybody helps build those skills. It helps weather failure while also setting you up for success," he said.

Being a dual-sport athlete, Adam has made a lot of memories on the field at Bluffton. His favorite came during his sophomore baseball season, "Making the conference tournament, celebrating with the team, being with the team after everyone left and only having to focus on baseball."

On Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, Duncan had an all-time historic day for the Beavers. He finished with three touchdowns (receiving, passing and rushing). The junior also added three extra points and punted two times with a 45.5 average per kick that included a 50-yarder which backed the Jackets up to their own 16 late in the third quarter.

Over the course of his time at Bluffton, Adam has grown as a person and learned a multitude of lessons. His advice for younger players is, "Do not take for granted your four years, it goes by so fast and you don't get it back. Best four years of your life. You have to maximize your opportunities with your friends and cherish them."
