Alma downs Bluffton 11-6 at Comerica Park

DETROIT, Mich. - The Bluffton University baseball team had a once in a lifetime experience on Wednesday, April 24, when the Beavers traveled to Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers, for a non-conference matchup with Alma College of the MIAA! The Scots pounded out 17 hits in an 11-6 victory over the Beavers.

Alma scored in four of the first six innings, including a five-spot in the fourth, on the way to a commanding 9-0 lead over the visitors from Ohio. Bluffton finally dented the scoreboard thanks to six hits, a pair of walks, a hit batsman and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

When Jack Towell (Batavia/West Clermont) drew a bases-loaded walk, the shutout was gone and he had tied the career RBI mark with number 144! Ezra Deitering (Ottawa/Miller City) sprinted into second with a two-run double before Justin Maurer's (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) two-bagger plated Towell and Deitering. Following a Tyler Fuller (Lewis Center/Orange) single, senior Kenny Schneider (Sunbury/Big Walnut) launched a sacrifice fly to right that drove in Maurer and made it 9-6.

Alma bounced right back with two more runs in the home half and that capped the scoring as Bluffton fell to Scots by a final score of 11-6.

Jake Baumgartner (Toledo/Start) fell in love with the surroundings, going 4-of-5 with one run scored! Deitering and Maurer both rapped a pair of hits with two RBI apiece.

Nine Bluffton hurlers saw time on the Tigers' mound. Jaden Jaques (East Palestine, Ind.) started and took the loss despite tossing just one inning. He allowed two hits, walked a batter and finished with one strikeout. Junior Nathan Young (Copley) worked a perfect eighth with two strikeouts and a popout.

Bluffton is back at it again on Thursday, April 25, but a little closer to home, when the Beavers make the short trip to Ada for a 4:15 matchup with Ohio Northern University.
