Bluffton falls to Ohio Northern 12-4

ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team dropped a 12-4 decision at Ohio Northern on a beautiful Thursday, April 25, 2024. ONU improved to 19-14, while the Beavers fell to 9-24 overall. one night after playing Alma at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Junior Evan Houseman (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) put Bluffton up 1-0 with his RBI double to center in the top of the first inning. He scored Jack Towell (Batavia/West Clermont) who had singled to third base.

Seth Altman (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) laced a base knock and came around to score in the fourth, but Northern led 8-2 when Bluffton came to bat in the sixth. Jake Baumgartner (Toledo/Start) and Ezra Deitering (Ottawa/Miller City) drove in Altman and Brandon North (Hilliard/Bradley), cutting the deficit to 8-4, however, the home team put it away with three tallies in the bottom of the frame and one more in the eighth for a 12-4 victory.

Altman went 2-of-5 with two runs scored. Justin Maurer (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) added two more scars to his resume as he was hit twice, tying Towell's two-year old school record with 20 HBP's this season!

Jacob Boelkens (Millbury/Lake) fell to 0-3 after allowing three runs on four hits in just two innings of work. He issued four of Bluffton's 11 walks and struck out one Polar Bear.

Bluffton will kick off its three-game Heartland Conference series with Anderson University on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The lidlifter is slated for 1 p.m. at Memorial Field.
