Albion takes down Bluffton 56-21

ALBION, Mich. - The Bluffton University football team scored 21 points in the second half but Albion College was too much in a 56-21 victory over the Beavers on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024. Bluffton slipped to 0-2 on the season, while the Britons improved to 2-0.

Albion put up 28 points in the first half and led 35-0 before Evan Unruh (Elida/Lima Central Catholic) connected with Niegel Payne (Detroit, Mich./River Rouge) on a 10-yard scoring pass. Following three more Briton touchdowns, the Beaver offense found a spark with Unruh as he hit Jacquez Cullars (Atlanta, Ga./Druid Hills) and Ethan Beringer (Findlay/Carey) for a pair of fourth quarter TD completions, making the final score 56-21.

Beringer hauled in nine passes for 158 yards and a touchdown. He moved up to 7th all-time with 1,391 career receiving yards and Beringer is just three catches away from becoming the ninth member of the 100-receptions club! Payne chipped in with 72 yards on five receptions. Unruh came off the bench and went 21-of-34 for 269 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 38 yards on two carries. Kainan Stoner (Belle Center/Benjamin Logan) went for 35 yards on the ground.

Dominic Barry (Brooklyn) and Devin Hogan (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) led the Beaver defense with seven and six stops, respectively. Hogan also made the Beaver faithful happy with a Big Mac Sack!

Albion went for 579 total yards, compared to a respectable 390 for the visitors. Bluffton was 24-of-43 for 322 yards through the air. The Britons picked up five more first downs (25-20) and they were an efficient 5-of-10 on third down conversion attempts.

Bluffton will now look forward to the 2024 home opener when it welcomes another MIAA opponent, Trine University, for a 7 p.m. kickoff under the lights next Saturday, Sept. 21.
