Bluffton downs Franklin 97-91 at North Central

Bluffton College knocked off defending Heartland Conference champion Franklin College 97-91 Saturday night in the consolation game of the North Central College Tip-off Tournament in Naperville, Illinois. BC is now 1-1 on the season and will travel to Adrian College (Mich.) on Wednesday.

The two teams combined for 104 points in the first half as Franklin took a 54-50 lead into the lockerroom at halftime, but the Bluffton defense held the Grizzlies to 37 points in the second half while BC scored 47 to earn their six point victory.

Bluffton shot a blistering 58% from the floor in the game (68% in the second half) and added a 53% clip from 3-point range and 73% from the free throw line.

Five Bluffton players hit for double figures, led by freshman Scott Remaklus' 22 points that included five 3-pointers. Jeremy Roberts added 20 points, while Ben Coole scored 14 points and collected a game-high six rebounds and Chad Cramer nailed three treys and also netted 14 points. Kevin Grey hit a team-best seven of nine free throws and chipped in a total of 13 points for the game.

The win marks the second Bluffton victory over Franklin in the last three meetings between the two schools. Bluffton topped Franklin 94-92 in Founders Hall on Jan. 19 of last season.

The University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse beat North Central 77-62 to win the tournament.
