Bluffton wins third McDonald's Tournament Championship

Bluffton College improved to 6-0 all-time in the McDonald's of Bluffton Holiday Tournament as the Beavers topped Urbana 100-82 in the tournament's championship game. Bethel won the consolation game in overtime over Concordia 100-92.

Bluffton senior Chad Cramer was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as he scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Bluffton to the title. Bluffton's Travis Elsass was also named to the all-tourney squad along with Urbana's Robert Lewis and DeShon Hilliard, Bethel's Michael Widener and Concordia's Dave Behnke.

Bluffton scored the final 16 points of the first half and continued their scoring binge in the second half in cruising to their 18 point victory, which is the largest championship game margin of victory in the three years of the tournament. Bluffton went up by as many as 30 points in the second half as the Beavers shot 55% from the floor. In addition to Cramer's 25 points, four other BC players hit for double figures, including Elsass with 24, Rod Overmyer with 17, Ben Coole with 12 and Scott Remaklus with 10.

Urbana's Robert Lewis led the Blue Knights with 24 points, while Brian Wilson and Jared Badenhop each added 11 points.

Bluffton tied a school record with their seventh straight win as the Beavers improved to 8-2 on the season. Urbana slips to 6-8.


Bethel 100 Concordia 92 (overtime)

Bethel College trailed by 15 points with 6:33 left in the game but came back to send the game into overtime and eventually pull out a 100-92 win over Concordia in the tournament's consolation game. The Treshers outscored Urbana 12-3 in the final 1:46 of regulation and continued that momentum into the overtime period, which was highlighted by 3-pointers by Adrian Howie and Garry Albright and a dunk by Michael Widener.

Five players scored in double figures for Bethel, led by Widener's 20 points and 19 from Howie. Frank Flores and Aaron Stucky both scored 16 and Albright chipped in 13. Behnke led Concordia with 22 while DeOndre' Head and Mike Havlik each netted 20. Brandon Bekius added 15.

Bethel is now 6-8, while Concordia falls to 4-8.
