BC knocks off HCAC leader Hanover 73-72

February 3, 2001

Freshman Scott Remaklus (Lorain/Southview) banked in an off-balance 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds left in the game as the Bluffton College men's basketball team hung on to knock off Heartland Conference leader Hanover College Saturday afternoon in Hanover, Indiana.

Remaklus' trey went in just as the shot clock expired giving Bluffton a 73-70 lead, but the Bluffton bench, hearing the shot clock horn go off, thought the game was over and flooded the court. A technical foul was assessed on Bluffton, and Hanover made both foul shots to bring the score to within one point at 73-72. The Panthers got off one last shot before the final buzzer sounded, but it bounced off the rim and Bluffton celebrated their win.

Bluffton is now 14-6 overall and 5-4 in the HCAC, moving the Beavers into a second-place tie in the conference. Hanover falls to 16-5 overall and 5-4 in the HCAC. It is Bluffton's second win over Hanover this season, as BC won their first meeting this season 82-77 in Founders Hall.

Bluffton held Hanover to a 28.6% shooting clip from the the floor in the first half and took a 31-24 lead at the intermission. The hosts shot 55.2% in the second half, but BC was an impressive 52.0% themselves from the floor in the final half and committed just 10 turnovers for the entire game.
