February 14, 2001

The Bluffton College men's basketball team notched a huge victory Wednesday night in Founders Hall with an impressive 86-82 win over Anderson University.

The win moves the Beavers one step closer to a home Heartland Conference tournament game next Tuesday and tied a pair of BC records in the process. The win was Bluffton's tenth of the season in Founders Hall, tying the 1965-66 squad's school record, and at the same time the win tied BC Head Coach Guy Neal's best ever season record, now ranking along side the 1991-92 squad which finished 16-10.

Bluffton trailed 80-75 with 2:02 left in the game, but the Beavers went on an 11-2 scoring run to end the game to improve to 16-7 overall and 6-5 in the HCAC. After five straight wins, Anderson falls to 13-10 overall and 4-7 in the HCAC.

Bluffton senior Ben Coole (Butler/Clear Fork) scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds, while junior Travis Elsass (Wapakoneta/Jackson Center) collected 22 points and three steals.

Freshman Scott Remaklus (Lorain/Southview) nailed a 65-foot trey as the first half clock expired to five BC a 44-36 lead at the intermission. He ended the game with 14 points, but Anderson then shot 69.2% from the floor in the second half to grab the lead. BC made their free throws down the stretch (16-19 in the game) to claim the victory.

Anderson landed five players in double figures, led by Travis Daugherty with 17 points.

Bluffton will host Franklin College on Saturday in Founders Hall at 3:00 p.m. in the regular season's final game.
