Beavers cruise to 85-65 win over Denison

December 15, 2001

Junior Mike Leimeister and senior Rod Overmyer combined for 58 points to lead Bluffton College to an 85-65 win at Denison University Saturday afternoon.

Both players set new career highs as Leimeister scored 30 points and Overmyer scored 28. The 20-point win snaps Bluffton's four-game losing streak as the Beavers shot 52.8% from the floor in the game and converted 26 of 37 free throw attempts. Denison went to the free throw line just 15 times and committed 27 turnovers.

Junior Derek DeNero added 15 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Marcus Bixler scored five points and dished out 11 assists, just two shy of his own school record set earlier this season.

Denison led by three points after four minutes had gone by, but then Overmyer caught fire, scoring 12 of Bluffton next 13 points in a three-minute span to give the Beavers a seven point lead with 14:30 left in the first half.

Bluffton took a three-point lead at halftime and Denison regained the lead at 41-40 with a 7-3 run to start the second half, but BC scored the game's next 13 points, including seven straight by Leimeister, to take control of the game.

Bluffton is now 3-5 overall and will return to action next weekend at the Heidelberg College Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.
