February 9, 2002

The Bluffton College 1000-point club added its newest member on Saturday afternoon as senior Rod Overmyer (Payne/Wayne Trace H.S.) scored the 1000th point of his career.

The 6-3 wing entered Saturday's game at Transylvania University just 14 points away from the 1000-point mark, and he reached that milestone on a free throw with 1:12 left in regulation of Bluffton's 87-78 overtime victory over the Pioneers in Lexington, Kentucky.

Overmyer will be honored in a ceremony at approximately 7:25 p.m. Wednesday night in Founders Hall prior to Bluffton's game against Defiance, which tips-off at 7:30.

Overmyer scored 241 points (11.0 ppg) as a sophomore and scored 341 points (14.2 ppg) last year as a junior when he was named first team All-HCAC. He had scored 404 points (18.4 ppg) heading into Saturday's game for a career total of 986 points.

He led the HCAC in 3-pointers as a sophomore with 56, and he ranked second last year with 55. He has already hit 57 treys this season, which leads the league, and his 168 career 3-pointers are the third most in BC history.

In addition to leading the HCAC in scoring so far this season, Overmyer ranks tenth in rebounding (5.1 rpg) and sixth in free throw percentage (81.7%). His career free throw percentage of 83.0% (166-200) is the second-best in school history.

Overmyer has scored in double-figures 52 times in 71 career games played, and he has scored 20 or more points 20 times. He scored a career-high 30 points in Bluffton's 96-90 win over Mount St. Joseph earlier this season.

In his career, Overmyer has added 275 rebounds, 100 assists and 48 steals.
