Overmyer named HCAC Player of the Week

February 18, 2002

Bluffton College senior Rod Overmyer (Payne, Ohio/Wayne Trace H.S.) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference player-of-the-week for his efforts in two games last week.

The 6-4 forward combined for 46 points as Bluffton knocked off HCAC-leader Defiance College on Wednesday night and fell at non-conference opponent Thomas More College on Saturday.

Overmyer was honored for scoring his 1000th career point prior to last Wednesday's game against Defiance, then helped lead BC to a thrilling 106-103 victory over the Yellow Jackets on Senior Night by scoring 21 points and hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers.

On Saturday, Overmyer scored a game-high 25 points as Bluffton dropped an 88-80 decision at Thomas More. For the week, he finished 7-for-15 from 3-point range and chipped in four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Overmyer ended the regular season as the HCAC scoring leader, averaging 18.9 points per game. His 65 three-pointers also led the league and he ranked 13th in rebounding (4.9 rpg) and 8th in free throw percentage (.812).

Overmyer was a first-team All-HCAC selection last year and will lead Bluffton into the HCAC tournament Tuesday night as the Beavers travel to Defiance College for a first round game at 8 p.m.
