The Bluffton University men's basketball team played at Earlham on Nov. 24 and in Founder's Hall against Heidelberg on Nov. 27. The Beavers defeated the Earlham Quakers 75-64 and lost to the Student Princes of Heidelberg 93-86. Bluffton's season record now stands at 2-2 overall.
BLUFFTON 75, EARLHAM 64
The Bluffton University men's basketball team (2-1) defeated Earlham College 75-64 on Nov. 24 on the road.
Leading the Beavers in scoring was junior Scott Bergman (Elmore/Woodmore) with 23 points. Senior Eric Sweet (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) connected on seven field goals for 18 points. Junior Michael Kingsley (Bluffton/Bluffton) posted 11 points with sophomore Michael Anthony (Ohio City/Delphos St. Johns) finished the double digit scoring with 10 points.
BLUFFTON 86, HEIDELBERG 93
The Bluffton University men's basketball team (2-2) lost their 2004-05 home opener to Heidelberg College 93-86 on Nov. 27. The Beavers led the contest at the half 49-45, but the second half saw the Student Princes take the game away.
Bluffton had three players in double figure scoring on the game. Junior Scott Bergman (Elmore/Woodmore) led all scores with a career-high 29 points for the contest. Bergman also posted five rebounds and three assists on the evening. Junior Eric Sweet (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) netted 15 points, four rebounds and a career high four blocks. Junior Michael Kingsley (Bluffton/Bluffton) added 12 points and three assists to the total.
Michael Anthony (Ohio City/Delphos St. John's) led the Beavers in rebounding with six grabs. The sophomore also contributed eight points and three assists. Junior Simeon Talley (Columbus/Centennial) led the assists column with five for the game.
BLUFFTON IN THE HEARTLAND CONFERENCE
Junior Scott Bergman currently leads Bluffton and is ranked third in the Heartland Conference in scoring with an average of 20.5 points per game. Bergman ranks sixth in the HCAC in steals with seven total, and averages 1.75 per game. Junior Eric Sweet leads the Beavers in blocked shots and is ranked second in the HCAC with seven total. As a team Bluffton ranks third in points allowed per game with 68.8 and the team is fourth in offensive rebounds with 58 total and 14.5 per game.
The Beavers have two games this week, on Wednesday they will host Kenyon College in Founder's Hall, tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m. On Saturday Bluffton travels to Adrian for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
