Schaller named HCAC Player of the Week

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Senior SCOTT BERGMAN (Elmore/Woodmore) was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 8, 2006.

Bergman was instrumental in all three Bluffton victories this week, a 96-83 victory over #19 Carnegie Mellon, a 68-50 win over Manchester and a 71-61 road win against #24 Hanover on Saturday afternoon.

The senior guard has helped the Beavers to the best start in men's basketball history, 12-1 and 2-0 in the HCAC.

Bergman finished the week with 75 points, 21 rebounds, 15 assists and six steals while hitting 22-40 shots from the field (55 percent), including 13-22 from long distance for 59 percent. He put up 26 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Carnegie Mellon contest. Bergman tallied 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals in the HCAC opening Manchester contest. He led the Beavers with 33 points, nine boards and four assists in the victory at Hanover.

Bergman's 33 points vaulted him into 10th place all-time at Bluffton with 1,320 career points. He leads the HCAC with 20.5 ppg, 4.38 apg and 39 made three-point goals. Bergman ranks second in three-point field goal percentage at .476 and third with 2.08 steals per game.

The Beavers are currently on a school-record ten game winning streak. They return to action on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 when they host HCAC foe Franklin. Bluffton fans are invited to Fill Founders on Wednesday and support the Beavers who are currently ranked #25 in the nation in the D3hoops.com poll.
