January 9, 2007

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Senior MIKE ANTHONY (Ohio City/Delphos St. John's) was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 7, 2007.

Anthony put up 36 points as the Beavers split a pair of HCAC contests while having their school-record 11-game winning streak snapped on Saturday. Bluffton held on to knock off perennial power Transylvania, 95-92, in overtime on Wednesday night. Anderson shut the Bluffton offense down in the first half, holding the Beavers to 20 points, as the Ravens dropped Bluffton to 4-1 in the conference with their 77-73 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The senior forward set career highs with his 26 points and 13 rebounds in the victory over the Pioneers. In the process, Anthony picked up his third career double-double. He was phenomenal at the line, sinking 15-of-17 attempts from the stripe in guiding Bluffton to its 11th straight victory which tied the mark set by the 2005-06 squad a year ago.

In Bluffton's contest at Anderson on Saturday, Anthony tallied 10 points while hitting all eight of his attempts from the free throw line to finish the week 23-of-25 on foul shots for 92 percent.

For the season, the senior is averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game and also is chipping in with 4.9 rebounds per contest. Anthony is currently fourth in the Heartland Conference with an 85.9 free throw percentage (73-of-85).

Bluffton is 12-2 overall with a league-leading 4-1 mark in the Heartland Conference. The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, when they travel to face the Manchester College Spartans. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
