Mike Anthony named HCAC Player of the Week

February 6, 2007

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Senior MIKE ANTHONY (Ohio City/Delphos St. John's) was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2007.

For the second time in less than a month, senior standout Mike Anthony (Ohio City/Delphos St. John's) picked up Player of the Week honors in the Heartland Conference. He led the Beavers to a pair of conference victories as Bluffton moved back into sole possession of first place in the HCAC.

At long-time rival Defiance College on Wednesday night, Anthony drilled a three-pointer late in regulation to send the game to overtime. With two seconds on the clock in the extra period, Anthony hit the game-winner to give the Beavers their second overtime victory over the Yellow Jackets and the first series sweep of Defiance since 1996-97. He finished the contest with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field.

In Bluffton's 77-68 home victory over Anderson on Saturday, Mike was a phenomenal 10-of-13 from the floor, including a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc for 28 points, only one off his career high. He also picked up five caroms and dished out three assists in the win over the Ravens.

Anthony averaged 20.5 points per game and shot 64 percent from the field as the Beavers improved to 16-5 overall and 8-4 in the HCAC with their wins over Defiance and Anderson.

He currently sports a conference-best 16.7 points per game scoring average. His .870 free throw percentage (107-of-123) and .489 three point percentage (23-of-47) are also tops in the HCAC. Anthony is currently 13th in the conference with 4.7 rebounds per game.

Anthony currently stands 17th on the all-time scoring list at Bluffton with 1,098 career points despite missing much of last season with a broken hand.

Bluffton is 16-5 overall with a league-leading 8-4 mark in the Heartland Conference. The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, when they host the Manchester College Spartans. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Founders Hall. On Wednesday night, the Bluffton campus would like to invite all fans to wear your white t-shirts to "White Out" Manchester as the Beavers are closing in on their first ever men's basketball Heartland Conference championship.
