Wilson named HCAC Player of Week

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Senior NICK WILSON (Continental) was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 11, 2009.

Nick Wilson hit back-to-back HCAC game-winners for the Beavers this week. Down by one with 2.7 seconds on the clock, Wilson got the hoop and harm under the basket to give Bluffton a 56-54 win over Transylvania in Founders Hall on Wednesday night. He followed that with a fadeaway from 25+ feet with 2.0 ticks left for a 58-57 win at Hanover on Saturday.

In the home victory over the Pioneers, Wilson narrowly missed a double-double with team-highs of 13 points and nine rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. Four of his nine caroms came on the offensive glass in the win against Transylvania.

To cap off his week, Wilson drained 5-of-10 shots from the field, including 2-of-3 outside the arc, for 13 points and four boards at Hanover on Saturday. He also added an assist and steal against the Panthers.

For the week, Wilson scored 26 points on 10-of-21 from the field, including 3-for-6 from distance. He finished with 13 rebounds and just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine boards in the win over Transy.

Wilson's 10.0 points per game is currently the third best average for the Beavers and his 53 rebounds have him tied with JOSH EICHAR (North Baltimore) for the most on the team.

Bluffton is 10-4 overall with a 4-1 mark in the Heartland Conference. The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, January 14, when they travel to face the Anderson University Ravens who are tied with Bluffton for second place in the HCAC. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
