BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference recently announced the winter honorees of the HCAC All-Academic awards for the 2012-13 school year. Ten Bluffton University athletes were recognized for their efforts in the classroom. Indoor track and field and men's basketball led the way for the Beavers with five honorees apiece.
Seniors ALISON JANZEN (Whitewater, Kan./Remington) and MADDIE MOORE (Linn Grove, Ind./South Adams) along with juniors KAYLA MULLENHOUR (Delphos/Jefferson) and JULIE COURT (Galion) all showed their peers how to get it done in the classroom as well as on the track. Moore was also honored following her final three seasons on the soccer field and for her junior track campaign. Mullenhour and Court are repeat honorees after earning All-Academic honors as sophomores, their first year of eligibility.
Senior CHRIS ARNOLD (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury) made it five total athletes from track and field to be honored and it marked a repeat performance for Arnold who earned Academic All-HCAC following the cross country season as well.
Five men's cagers earned Academic All-HCAC honors following the 2012-13 campaign. Senior TYLER NEAL (Bluffton), who is a three-time honoree, was joined by a trio of juniors. JONATHAN FOWLER (Cincinnati/St. Xavier), MATT WEISENBORN(Bowling Green/Otsego) and JOSH JOHNSON (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) all got it done in the classroom as well as on the court. It marked the second straight year that Fowler and Weisenborn have been honored. Sophomore RYAN EBBESKOTTE(Delphos/Jefferson) collected Academic All-HCAC honors in his first year of eligibility. The five honorees from Bluffton were the most men's basketball players for any school in the conference with Rose-Hulman's three the next highest total.
To be named All-Academic HCAC, a student-athlete must have completed a full year at the institution, be a varsity athlete and carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 through the semester preceding the end of the season.
