Bluffton splits on opening weekend at Manchester

The Bluffton College men's soccer team won their season opener 4-2 against defending NCCAA Division II national champion Moody Bible College on Friday at the Manchester College Soccer Tournament. Bluffton lost the second game of the tournament 2-1 against Adrian College.

Senior Andrew Hornblower led Bluffton with 2 goals in the win over Moody, while junior Derek Stemen had twelve saves. Hornblower's first goal came at the 7:40 mark assisted by junior Esuga Abaya at the. Junior Ryan Zeman followed with an unassisted goal at the 31st minute, followed by an Abaya goal assisted by Diego Rodriguez. Hornblower then scored his second goal of the game to close the scoring for Bluffton.

In their second game, Bluffton was defeated by Adrian College by a score of 2-1. The game was tied until the 74th minute when Warren Scaife of Adrian scored the go-ahead goal for the Bulldogs. Junior Diego Rodriguez scored the lone goal for the Beavers unassisted, while Stemen had five more saves.

Bluffton now stands at 1-1 on the season and will look for their second win in their home opener against Defiance College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Emery Sears Athletic Complex.
