Beavers fall at Anderson

ANDERSON, Indiana - The Bluffton University men's soccer team fell to 2-10 following a shutout loss to Anderson University (6-7-1) on Saturday, October 14, 2006. The Ravens netted one first half goal and opened up the contest with three scores in the second half for a 4-0 win over the visiting Beavers.

Just 13 minutes into the contest, JJ DARR used a feed from TYLER HUSSEY and CHARLIE BARLEYCORN to put Anderson on top, 1-0. As Bluffton tried to knot the score, shots by ANDREW MARTIN (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny Sr.) and MICAH BOEHR(Bluffton/Bluffton) just missed the mark midway throught the opening frame. NATE FLATH(Wadsworth/Wadsworth) fired back-to-back shots late in the first half, but Anderson kept the Beavers from finding  the back of the net as the Ravens took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Early in minute 62, PAUL HILL put the Ravens up 2-0. Less than two minutes later, Manny Kratzat used assists from PETER BOBERG and TYLER HUSSEY to give Anderson a three-goal advantage. With the Ravens contolling the action, Paul Hill ripped a shot off the post, but NATE SALSGIVER bumped the rebound into the goal for the final score of the game and a 4-0 Anderson victory.

For the contest, the Beavers were outshot 23 to 10, including seven to three on goal. Anderson took seven corner kicks while Bluffton forced only two. Referees issued three yellow cards to Bluffton as the Beavers were whistled for 12 fouls.

Flath fired four shots in the contest while goalkeeper RYAN THOMAS (Jamestown/Greenview) picked up three saves.

The men's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 17, when it hosts Taylor-Ft. Wayne at 4 p.m.
