Beavers pick up 1-0 win at MSJ

October 28, 2006

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team picked up its third Heartland Conference victory with a 1-0 shutout win over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, October 28, 2006. The Beavers improved to 4-12 overall and 3-5 in the HCAC while the Lions fell to 2-13-2 and 2-6 in the conference.

With a sharp wind blowing across the field, LOUIS CANCASCI (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) got the Beavers on the scoreboard in minute 29 with what turned out to be the game-winner on a day when defenses controlled the action.

Although both teams had opportunities to capitalize throughout the contest, the Beavers made their single goal hold up as they completed their Heartland Conference schedule with three victories.

NATE FLATH (Wadsworth/Wadsworth) led the Bluffton offense with five shots, three on goal. PATRICK JACKSON (Uniontown/Lake) fired three shots at the Lions' defense. Senior goalkeeper RYAN THOMAS (Jamestown/Greenview) deflected eight shots on the way to his second shutout of the season.

The Mount took 15 shots in the contest while the Beavers countered with 12. Both squads put eight of their shots on goal. The Beavers forced six corner kicks and the Lions took four.

The Beavers' contest against Concordia, postponed from September 2, may be rescheduled and it would be the final match of the year for the Bluffton men's soccer team.
