FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind., for a matchup with Taylor University on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007. The Beavers (1-5) took the soccer field displaying a confidence not visible in recent contests, dominating Taylor-Ft. Wayne (0-5-1) in a 10-0 shutout over the home team.

Junior midfielder NATE FLATH ( Wadsworth/Wadsworth ) opened the scoring for the Beavers in minute nine when he buried an early penalty kick. Less than two minutes later, DERRICK SCOVANNER ( Loveland/Cincinnati Hills ) took a punt from starting goalkeeper BRIAN GOOD (Elida/Elida) and he did the rest for his second goal of the season. Freshman NOLAN PHELPS ( Monroe/Lemon-Monroe ) found the back of the net in the 15th minute, giving Bluffton a 3-0 advantage early in the first half. During the final six minutes of the opening stanza, sophomore LOUIS CANCASCI (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) hit paydirt twice as Bluffton went to the break with a commanding 5-0 lead.

In minute 58, senior MICAH BOEHR ( Bluffton/Bluffton ) used a feed from JACOB GRAHAM (Gomer/Elida ) to score his first goal of the season. NICK EVANS ( Elida/Elida ), and NOLAN MILLER ( Middlebury, Ind./Bethany Christian) both picked up their first 2007 scores thanks to assists from MICHAEL TIMPE (Swanton/Swanton) and JASON HUDSON (Troy/Troy), respectively, before Scovanner knocked in his second goal of the contest with just over 10 minutes to play. Graham capped the Bluffton scoring barrage with his first collegiate goal in minute 85 giving Bluffton its first victory of the season, a 10-0 road win.

Also picking up assists in the victory were BRANDON KINDELL (Kenton/Kenton), DANIEL TINCH (Middletown/Madison) and Nate Flath. Bluffton placed 21 shots on goal, compared to only three for Taylor. For the match, the Beavers forced eight corner kicks and allowed only one. Bluffton's 10 goals marked the most by the Beavers since they defeated Summit Christian by an identical 10-0 count in 1989.

The Bluffton men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, against Thomas More College. The men's match is slated to start at 3 p.m. following the women's contest.
