Bluffton picks up first HCAC win at Franklin, 1-0

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team used a NATE FLATH(Wadsworth/Wadsworth) penalty kick with just over 16 minutes on the clock to pick up its first Heartland Conference victory of the season over Franklin College on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007. The Beavers 1-0 win during Franklin's Homecoming weekend helped Bluffton up its mark to 2-8-1 overall and 1-3 in the HCAC while the Grizzlies fell to 3-7-1 and 2-2 in the HCAC.

Franklin took 11 shots, three more than the Beavers, but freshman goalkeeper BRIAN GOOD(Elida/Elida) came up with four saves to preserve the victory.

For the match, Bluffton forced six corner kicks, one more than the Grizzlies. The Beavers were whistled for 12 infractions, four less than their counterparts from Franklin.

Flath and BRANDON KINDELL (Kenton/Kenton) both paced the Beavers with two shots in the contest.

Bluffton returns to the pitch on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, when it travels to North Manchester, Indiana. The Beavers are slated to take on Manchester College at 4 p.m.
