October 13, 2007

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team saw two penalty kicks in a span of less than a minute give Rochester all the ammunition it needed as the Warriors toppled the Beavers 2-0 on Saturday, October 13, 2007. The Beavers fell to 2-10-1 overall with the loss to Rochester after the Warriors arrived at the field 30 minutes late due to a traffic jam on Interstate 75 north of Toledo.

The Beavers took 13 shots compared to only 11 for the visitors, but Rochester put eight on frame, four more than Bluffton. For the match, Bluffton forced five corner kicks and limited Rochester to only two. Rochester was whistled for 25 infractions, 14 more than the home squad. Defensively, Bluffton coerced the Warriors into nine offsides calls during the match.

NOLAN PHELPS (Monroe/Lemon-Monroe) led the Beavers with three shots. Chipping in with two attempts were DANIEL TINCH (Middletown/Madison), JACOB GRAHAM (Gomer/Elida) and NATE FLATH (Wadsworth/Wadsworth). Freshman goalkeeper BRIAN GOOD (Elida/Elida) stopped six shots in the loss to Rochester.

With the game still scoreless, CALVIN MARSHALL converted on a Warrior penalty kick at the 65:25 mark. Less than a minute later, sophomore ANDREW MARTIN (Pittsburgh, Penn/North Allegheny) drew a red card. Good rejected BRIAN MATLOCK'S penalty kick, but the Matlock rebound attempt found the back of the net for what turned out to be the final score of the match with just under 24 minutes to play.
