MARIETTA, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team was manhandled in the Beavers' 3-0 loss at Marietta College on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009. The Pioneers improved to 1-1 while Bluffton fell to 0-1-1 with the defeat.
The Beavers executed five shots total, including one each from Nick Schlabach (Millersburg/West Holmes) and Nolan Phelps (Monroe/Lemon-Monroe) on goal. The Pioneers scored their first two goals before the seven-minute mark and their third goal came in the 83rd minute.
Marietta forced four more corner kicks than Bluffton and the Pioneers were whistled for 25 fouls, compared to only eight for the Beavers. Bluffton's goalie, Brian Good (Elida/Elida), tallied five saves.
The Beavers return to action on Sunday, Sept. 6, when they battle St. Vincent in the consolation game of the Marietta Tourney. The contest is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
