Bluffton opens HCAC play with 2-0 shutout of Mt. St. Joseph

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team defeated the Lions of Mt. St. Joseph, 2-0, on Saturday, September 26, 2009. The Beavers picked up their second win in three matches to move their record to 2-5-1 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC, while the Lions fell to 1-7 (0-1 HCAC) with the defeat.

Bluffton produced 14 shots total, which were evenly spread throughout the entire team. The first goal came after 24 minutes of play when senior DANIEL TINCH (Middleton/Madison) bumped in a header following a pass from BRANDON KINDELL (Kenton).
 
The Beavers' offense stayed steady but did not add another goal until just 13 seconds remained as ROBERT JOHNSON (Columbus/Marion-Franklin) beat a Mount defender and followed his shot off the post to add another score for the Beavers. The Bluffton defense was up to the task as it held Mt. St. Joseph to 10 shots while keeping them scoreless for the Beavers' second consecutive Saturday shutout.
 
Leading the Beaver offense was sophomore STEVE RUCKI (Killbuck/West Holmes) with four shots, followed by Tinch, JACOB GRAHAM (Gomer/Elida), ANDREW JOHNSON (Vienna, WV/Parkersburg), and Rob Johnson who all chipped in with two. The team total for the match was 14 shots, four on goal. The Beavers outshot the Lions 14-10 to pick up the win.
 
The match was very aggressive as each team managed to pick up 16 fouls while avoiding any cards. The Mount attempted five corner kicks and Bluffton forced two. Bluffton's goalkeeper, BRIAN GOOD (Elida), collected four saves in the shutout.

The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when they host Muskingum at Sears Field. The contest is slated to start at 4 p.m.
