Franklin pulls out 2-1 win over Beavers in double overtime

October 3, 2009

FRANKLIN, Indiana - Back-to-back double overtime thrillers proved to be one too many as Franklin College knocked in the game-winner with less than thirty seconds on the clock in the second extra session on Saturday, October 3, 2009. Franklin improved to 3-7-1 overall and 1-2 in the Heartland Conference with the 2-1 win, while Bluffton slipped to 3-6-1 (1-1 HCAC) on the year.

A JASON HUDSON (Troy) goal with 10 seconds to play in the first period sent Bluffton to the break with a 1-0 lead. The Beavers maintained their slim advantage until MITCHELL WALDROUP'S header from CRAIG WOOD found the back of the net in minute 75.

The score remained knotted at one until ANDREAS KAPSALIS broke the tie with only 23 seconds remaining in the second overtime.

JACOB GRAHAM (Gomer/Elida) and ANDREW JOHNSON (Vienna, WV/Parkersburg) both paced the Bluffton offense with five shots each, including three on frame by Johnson. Franklin forced six corner kicks compared to just two for the Beavers. Bluffton was whistled for 26 fouls, six more than the home team. Both squads took 16 shots and junior keeper BRIAN GOOD (Elida) collected five saves.

The Beavers return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when Rochester College comes to town. The contest is slated to start at 5 p.m. following the women's match with Rochester.
