LEXINGTON, Ky. -The Bluffton University men's soccer team was dominated by conference rival Transylvania University, 4-0, on Saturday, October 17, 2009. The Pioneers improved to 5-1 in the HCAC and 9-3-1 overall, while the Beavers fell to 1-4 in the conference and 3-10-1 for the season following the loss.
The Transy offense came out strong, generating its first goal by Pioneer PETE MIKHAIL at the 6:24 mark, and the home team never lost its intensity as SCOTT MCKELWAY produced the fourth Pioneer tally with less than eight minutes left in the contest. The Pioneers outshot Bluffton, 19-2. DILLAN SHUMAKER (Springfield/Shawnee) had the lone shot on goal for the Beavers while junior forward JACOB GRAHAM (Gomer/Elida) attempted a header for Bluffton.
The home team forced five corner kicks while limiting Bluffton to just two. The Pioneers were whistled for 10 infractions, four more than the Beavers. BRIAN GOOD (Elida) grabbed seven saves in the match while fellow goalkeeper DAN SAVILLE (Toledo/Central Catholic) picked up one stop.
The Bluffton men return to HCAC action when they travel to Manchester on Tuesday, October 20. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
