Rose Hulman posts 3-0 shutout of Beavers

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team was shut out by conference rival Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 3-0 on Saturday, October 24, 2009. The Engineers stayed spotless at 7-0 in the HCAC and 11-4-1 overall, while the Beavers slipped to 2-5 in the conference and 4-11-1 for the season.

The Beavers fell behind 1-0 thanks to an own goal in the 13th minute. With the contest yet to be decided throughout most of the second half, the Engineers added a pair of scores toward the end of the match with a header in the 72nd minute by Clint Vatterrodt and an unassisted breakaway by Paul Bouagnon in the 81st minute, pushing the score to 3-0.

The Engineers outshot Bluffton 18-7 in the contest and edged the Beavers 10-6 in corner kicks. Four Bluffton players fired shots on goal, including Louie Cancasci (Twinsburg), Brandon Kindell (Kenton), Robert Johnson (Columbus/Marion-Franklin), and Daniel Tinch (Middleton/Madison).

The match was very physical as Bluffton picked up 11 total fouls, just one more than the home squad. Junior goalkeeper Brian Good (Elida) racked up four saves and his defense contributed with another.

The Bluffton men finish their season at home against HCAC foe Anderson University next Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m.
