Anderson makes first half goals stand up in 2-1 win at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team fell to a fired up Anderson University squad that came out with two goals in the first half to slide past Bluffton on Saturday, October 31, 2009. The Ravens improved to 5-3 in the HCAC and 8-10-1 overall, while the Beavers finished 2-6 in the conference and 4-12-1 to end the 2009 season.

The Ravens started off strong with AUSTIN FRIDLEY knocking in the first Anderson goal less than four minutes into the contest. At the 29:17 mark, Anderson's DAVID DROEGER increased the Raven lead to 2-0 with his sixth score of the season.
 
Early in the second half, a Raven foul resulted in a DANIEL TINCH (Middletown/Madison) penalty kick and Bluffton goal that slid into the lower left corner of the net. Despite the goal, the Ravens held on as the Anderson men defeated Bluffton, 2-1.
 
Daniel Tinch led the Beavers with five shots, while fellow senior LOUIS CANCASCI(Twinsburg) generated three shots for Bluffton. Even though the shots from each team were almost equal (14-13), the Ravens framed the goal five more times than the Beavers, 9-4.
 
Anderson forced 10 corner kicks and limited Bluffton to just four. Both teams were whistled for nine infractions. The Beavers were flagged for two yellow cards, one more than the Ravens. BRIAN GOOD (Elida) had three saves during the first half, while fellow keeper DAN SAVILLE(Toledo/Central Catholic) racked up four saves in the final 45 minutes of the 2009 season.
 
 
The Bluffton men wrapped up their 2009 campaign with a final record of 4-12-1, including a mark of 2-6 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, as seniors Dan Tinch, Louie Cancasci, ROBERT JOHNSON (Columbus/Marion-Franklin) and BRANDON KINDELL(Kenton) played for the last time on the Bluffton pitch.
