October 13, 2010

PONTIAC, Michigan - The Bluffton University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Rochester College at the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac, Michigan, on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. Rochester improved to 4-8-1 on the season, while Bluffton slipped to 2-10 overall.

A CHAD HELBERG score in minute 23 proved to be all that Rochester would need as the Beavers were unable to capitalize on any of their 15 shots in the match. Helberg used a ROBERT EKREM feed to go up 1-0 midway through the first period.

The Warriors made it 2-0 at the 66:13 mark when AUSTIN VERVILLE found JOHN YARSINSKY in the second half. DAVID FLEMING held the Beavers at bay as he picked up five saves in the Rochester victory.

The Warriors fired 23 shots (13 on frame), compared to Bluffton's 15 (five on target). Rochester finished with a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks and the Warriors were whistled for four more infractions (16-12) than the visitors.

JACOB GRAHAM (Gomer/Elida) paced Bluffton with five shots and he was followed by SETH HERTENSTEIN (St. Marys/Memorial) who put up three. KEVIN WILLIAMS (Pandora/Pandora-Gilboa) and ZACH STURM (Grove City) both notched two shot attempts. Senior keeper BRIAN GOOD (Elida) came up with 11 saves for the Beavers.

Bluffton moves back into Heartland Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 16, when the Beavers host Franklin College at the Sears Complex. The contest is slated to start at 4 p.m.
