Franklin wins HCAC battle over Beavers 6-0

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team was defeated 6-0 by conference rival Franklin College on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010. The Grizzlies improved to 6-4-3 overall and 3-0-2 in the Heartland Conference. Bluffton fell to 2-11 on the season and 0-5 in HCAC action.

WILLIAM HILGENDORF scored just shy of the seven-minute mark, and teammate GRANT KREVDA scorched the back of the net less than 15 minutes into the first half for a quick 2-0 lead. 14 minutes later, CRAIG WOOD added another tally for Franklin, giving the visitors a 3-0 advantage over the Beavers.
 
The Bluffton defense tightened up for the opening stages of the second half until the Ravens broke loose during minute 72 with a goal from MITCHELL WALDROUP. Less than 10 minutes later, Wood scored his second goal of the day. With just over four minutes to play in the contest, BRANDON SHEETS found the back of the net, giving Franklin a 6-0 conference win.
 
Bluffton fired seven shots (two on target), while Franklin put up 24. The Beavers forced only three corner kicks, compared to five for the Grizzlies. Both BRIAN GOOD (Elida) and DAN SAVILLE (Toledo/Central Catholic) recorded three saves in the contest. Senior MICHAEL TIMPE (Swanton) led the Beaver offense with two shots. Franklin racked up four more infractions than the home team (15-11).
 
The Bluffton men will host conference foe Manchester College on Tuesday, October 19. The contest is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. at the Sears Complex.
